      Highlights •Magnetic nanosorbent based on PDMS@zinc oxide-tetrapods@iron oxide-nanorods nanohybrid was synthesized.•Magnetic nanosorbent showed superhydrophobicity and superoleophilicity.•Developed magnetic nanosorbent exhibited excellent adsorption capacity for oil removal.
